About Us

The Sleep Apnea Shop was started by Bernhard Kirschner who only discovered after years of daytime fatigue that Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) was the probable cause.

The concept behind the Sleep Apnea Shop is that the easier it is to determine that you have OSA, the sooner you are likely to try a remedy, and the more support from your supplier, the more likely you are to be successful with CPAP.

The accepted medical opinion is that the best diagnosis for OSA is an overnight hospital sleep study, but there is a reasonable argument that a home study with less sophisticated equipment may be as effective in identifying OSA, simply because theovernight hospital sleep study, with 30+ sensors is so broken, compared to a sleep at home with just 2 sensors, that the home study is just as likely to give an accurate, even a more accurate result. However an over-night hospital sleep study, could identify other problems, which a home study would not. Its like using a thermometer to check your health, compared to a blood test. The thermometer will identify a fever, a blood test can identify a cancer, but no-one has a blood test for evey illness. So if you feel that a full check up is needed, you must take an overnight hospital sleep study.

if you can determine the severity of your disorder with a simple home study, you are more likely to investigate and start treatment.

The Sleep Apnea Shop currently offers a full hire service of CPAP machines.
The Sleep Apnea Shop also believed that they must offer the most thorough and sympathetic support and advice to clients, such as offering unlimited FREE downloads from CPAP machines sold, hire of finger Oximetry devices to indicate the effectiveness of treatment, or to compare pressures and masks. These services will continue.

The Sleep Apnea Shop believes that CPAP is the most proven method to treat OSA, but is open to new ideas and are willing to discuss treatments, with many clients reporting Mandibular Advancement Splints such as the SomnoGuard being very effective, especially for mild or moderate OSA.
